Concept Explanation

Pollution Caused by Man

Pollution caused by Man: Most of the pollution from human activities comes from industries and vehicles burning fossil fuels. Smoke from these sources is the primary air pollutant. Smoke also gets into the air from other sources like aeroplanes, kitchens and steam-engines. Burning of fuels and other industrial activites release harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, oxides of sulphur and nitrogen, particulate matter, etc. The oxides of sulphur and nitrogen in the air cause acid rain which affects monuments, etc.

Increase in population increases the demand for more space and food. Both these requirements results in deforestation. Increasing deforestation means less absorption of carbon dioxide gas which causes pollution and global warming.
